Private Safaris

Your own guide and vehicle, and a day nobody else votes on.

01 · The experience

A private safari means the vehicle and the guide are yours. That sounds like a luxury and is really a control mechanism.

It changes small things constantly: leaving at 5.45 instead of 6.30, staying an hour with a leopard because you want to, going back to camp when the children have had enough, spending a whole morning photographing one thing.

It costs more because the vehicle and guide are not shared. For two people that premium is significant; for four or six it becomes marginal, which is why family and friend groups almost always travel privately.

02 · What it involves

What it actually buys

01

Your hours

First light and last light are when animals move. A private vehicle lets you be out for both without negotiating.

02

Your pace

Stay or move on, entirely your decision. This matters most to photographers and to families.

03

Your guide

A week with one guide who learns what you care about is a different experience from a rotating driver.

04

Route changes mid-trip

If the herds move, a private trip can follow them. A fixed departure cannot.

03 · Practical

Practical

It depends almost entirely on party size — To confirm against current rates. Per person, it falls sharply as the vehicle fills.
If the budget allows. If it would cost you two nights, take the nights and join a group.
Within reason — camps are booked in advance, but the daily plan is yours.
That is the intention on a private trip, and it is worth confirming when you book.
