Wild and Mike Safari

Experiences

Honeymoon Safaris

Privacy, pacing, and doing the bush before the beach.

01 · The experience

The mistake most honeymoon itineraries make is doing too much in the first week, when you are still tired from the wedding.

A honeymoon safari works best with fewer camps and longer stays. Two nights somewhere means one full day and two half days of driving; three nights means two full days and a morning you can spend in bed.

The other decision is order. Safari first, beach second — arriving at the coast tired is fine, arriving in the Serengeti tired is a waste of the expensive part.

02 · What it involves

What actually makes it feel different

01

Fewer moves, longer stays

Three nights in two places beats two nights in three. Packing is the least romantic part of any trip.

02

A private vehicle

The single biggest upgrade. Nobody else votes on when you go out or when you come back.

03

Bush before beach

Early starts while you have energy, then the coast to do nothing on.

04

The small things camps do

Bush breakfasts, private dinners, a bath drawn with a view. Tell us it is a honeymoon and camps generally do something about it.

03 · Safari packages

Packages couples usually start from

04 · Practical

Practical

Ten to twelve days total is the comfortable shape: four or five on safari, four or five on the coast, and the flights.
North Zanzibar if you want to swim whatever the tide is doing. East for the reef and the drama of the tides. Pemba if you want nobody around.
June to October and January to February are the classic windows. April and May are wet on both the mainland and the coast.
Camps often offer something — To confirm what we can pass on.
